I voted for this shotgun before I voted against it
Drudge has the goods on John Kerry's latest disaster on the campaign trail with this Michael Dukakis "look at me I'm a tough guy!" moment. Setting aside the absurdity of the image itself, it now appears that it's just as absurd in its substance. It seems Kerry co-sponsored legislation that would have made illegal the very weapon he's so half-wittedly waving.
Just a couple of random thoughts here...
First of all, can you imagine the venom that W would encounter from the wacky left and its big media minions if he dared wave a (gasp!) GUN at a campaign rally?? I can see Michael Moore's seven minutes of slow motion footage now in "Bowling For Beslan".
Secondly, and here's the strangeness of it all, I would tend to agree with them here. Just a few days removed from the grief and horror of hundreds of school children being slaughtered by terrorists, many of whom had been shot in the back, is it wise for a man running for president of the United States to so oafishly brandish a fire arm? And if not, is this misstep yet another sign of Kerry just not understanding what is at stake in this war against terror?
Thirdly and lastly, my blood tends to run a bit cold when I witness a man so calculatingly abandon his "principles" (i.e. gun control) for a cheap political ploy. Even more frigid to the blood is the more probable alternative here - this man has no principles.

And let's not forget one of the most Kerryesque moments of that article -- his comment about not being able to take a gun to the debate. As one of Instapundit's readers pointed out, if Bush had said that, tomorrow's NYTimes headline would be, "Bush regrets he can't shoot Kerry."
