You want diversity? You can't handle diversity.

A friend of mine teaches elementary school in an urban Eastern community. Here is a list of the students' first names:

Omar
Amr
Arabel
Ciara
Ny'Sean
Bryan
Brianna
Idalia
Chantell
Najeriah
Nolanei
Alberto
Abel
Omar # 2
Joseph
Joshua
Jesse
Musheed Mohammad
Yaem
Elizabeth
Phat
Beverly
Krystal
Money
Amber

Slightly different that Our Lady Of Good Counsel in 1958 when boys were named after the saints and all of the girls had a middle name that followed 'Mary'.

"and all of the girls had a middle name that followed 'Mary'."

-- More proof that I actually belong in the Fifties. Did you know that the name "Cashew" goes by is actually her middle name?

CIV has spent the last 3 days typing in hundreds of names, etc. for a school directory. (What's the matter, these people don't know how to go to a web site and enter it themselves?)

Anyway, enter a last name like Xiopo or Dagasheedarov (or Kim or Lee) and you get a list of 20-30 kids with unpronouncable first names (and parent names) as well. Enter Smith and you'll get one lonesome Joe. But this is a biased list, as it is one of science and math students.

At a lower school, mixed variety of interest, I noticed one Mary in the entire school. CIV, a former Catholic school student, was shocked. Meanwhile, there were 3 Chloes in one classroom.

Back in 83 when the first Stewpuppy was born, we got Lynn Johnson's The Best Baby Name Book Ever (it was). Lynn writes the great strip For Better or For Worse. In it there was a cartoon of a first grade class with the names under. . 'Jennifer, Jennifer, Jason, Jennifer, Jason, Jason, Mrs. Darwinkle, Jennifer, Jason. . . "
