Is the concept of "Limbo" in limbo?
I hope so. I thought the Catholic Church abandoned this idea a while ago. I guess it just turns out that I abandoned it from about the time I reached the age of reason.

I had thought that the notion of Limbo was quietly dustbinned a generation ago too. I'll be curious to check the Catholic press for their more in-depth coverage of this, because man, that Reuters wire story is woefully inadequate, gratuitous Inferno reference and all.
Yeah, I'm not surprised by the inadequacy of the Reuters story, but considering how ignorant I am of the teachings of my own religion, I can't blame them too harshly. "Limbo" was never something that was taught to me in all my years of Catholic education. I wonder if it's one of those official teachings that rarely gets taught.
Then again, I went to an all-girls Catholic high school and a Catholic grammar school, and there's a good amount of more central Catholic teachings that seem to have gotten lost in the shuffle. Maybe I just wasn't paying enough attention. It was only after I went to a heathen university, for instance, that I understood the distinction between resurrection of the dead and resurrection of the body -- or why saying "body" in the Apostle's Creed was important.
The definitive word on limbo.
Oh, my. That'll take some wading through! Thanks for the info, CIV.
I embrace Limbo. It and Purgatory are my only hope from becoming kindling in the flames of Hades.
Limbo. . I love doing the limbo. . it's such a great dance. . but it is harder to get under the stick as I get older. . . what. . THAT Limbo. .oh. . NEVERMIND.

Stewdog, I think Limbo's out for you. Purgatory's all you've got left, but in the grand scheme of things, Purgatory's better than Limbo, isn't it? That's what I find disturbing -- that you have a better chance of seeing the face of God than some poor unbaptized infant.
Daryl Ann, when, pray tell, did anyone ever teach us about Limbo? And come on, you have to admit that reading Moby Dick was more spiritually fulfilling than listening to Mr. O.
Moby what?! Moby WHAT?!
Good God, you belong in Limbo . . . or Erebus.

You're a better woman than I am, Daryl Ann!
Jeffery . . . From hell's heart I stab at thee!
Thou hast pricked me to the core.
