RAthERGATE REDUX

Pat Buchanan is the crazy Uncle of the Republican party. Every family has one. He shows up at family parties with his nutty stories and bumbling ways. You get a couple in him, put him in the den with the football game and hope to get out of the house before listening to his read on the Russian Revolution, Hockey labor strife, price of commodities or bad drivers.
But Pat has this RATHERGATE issue pretty well figured out. You have a felony in the forgery of US Government documents. You have wire fraud in the faxing of them. You have, being kind, recklessness on the part of CBS in using them to push their story, and now, you have a direct link between CBS and the DNC.
Last night, he was one of the panelists on MSNBC who was discussing this on Scarborough Country (interesting to note that all subsequent shows were being shown on tape delay, so the story wasn't discussed on our 8pm Whiffleball with Christy Matthews). The latest relevation was considered by all, including NEWSWEEK'S Howard Fineman, to be a BIG DEAL.
Before they ran the story, it appears that the CBS producer put the Kerry campaign directly in contact with their source. A high level Kerry campaign official admits to calling this fool, but denies that the conversation had to do with the documents or the story. (May I please purchase some swamp land in Florida from you sir?)
If the shoe was on the other foot, the LA Times would have above the fold 500 point type screaming headlines about how Watergate has raised its ugly head.
Instead, they buried this latest revelation in the story of Rather's apology (for being caught).

Let's not forget, though, that Pat Buchanan is officially no longer a Republican.

You beat me to this story, Stewdog. Nice little post. I still think Lockhart should get the "Carlo" treatment.
