MSM and Danny Rather -- it's woodshed time
According to Drudge this morning, it appears that "See BS" news was actually planning on running the Bush missing explosives story on election eve. tee hee hee.
I must laugh because if I didn't I just might smash something. CBS News was gonna run this story on election eve?? Are you kidding me? Rather/Memo/Mary Mapes/Lucy Ramirezgate is still rotting and festering in the corner and the MSM was gonna do it again? On election eve??
Now little Danny Rather, tell us what you learned by perpetrating a fraud on the American people in hopes of swaying a presidential election? "Well Mrs. Beasley, I learned that it's not nice to lie to people just because you want something reeeaaaally bad. And... if I had it to do aaaallll over again, I'd do things a lot differn't!" Good boy Danny.
But wait. What's this Danny? (via Drudge):
News of missing explosives in Iraq -- first reported in April 2003 -- was being resurrected for a 60 MINUTES election eve broadcast designed to knock the Bush administration into a crises mode.Jeff Fager, executive producer of the Sunday edition of 60 MINUTES, said in a statement that "our plan was to run the story on October 31, but it became clear that it wouldn't hold..."
It seems that Danny and his friends were sneaking back to that darned forbidden cookie jar again! And there's more. There's this from Cliff May over at The Corner:
“The Iraqi explosives story is a fraud. These weapons were not there when US troops went to this site in 2003. The IAEA and its head, the anti-American Mohammed El Baradei, leaked a false letter on this issue to the media to embarrass the Bush administration. The US is trying to deny El Baradei a second term and we have been on his case for missing the Libyan nuclear weapons program and for weakness on the Iranian nuclear weapons program.”
May cites this on good authority from a government source, which he won't reveal.
Hugh Hewitt weighs in on all of this here:
The significance of this story: It will confirm the ominous, uncoordinated-but quite-real-alliance between liberal political elites and liberal media elites that works to distort news in order to influence elections.
And what did John Kerry and John Edwards have to say about this fraud yesterday? They swallowed hook, line and sinker. They took the bag with the marked bills and exploding dye timing device and ran with it like two desperate and bungling bank robbers.
Here's Kerry:
"This is one of the great blunders of Iraq, one of the great blunders of this administration."
Here's Edwards:
"It is reckless and irresponsible to fail to protect and safeguard one of the largest weapons sites in the country. And by either ignoring these mistakes or being clueless about them, George Bush has failed. He has failed as our commander in chief; he has failed as president."
Kablam! (device ignites -- bag and robbers now covered with the dye of yellow journalism). The jig is up boys.
And as for Danny and his friends? Since a lecture was insufficient last time, I suggest it's time we take them to the woodshed.
Update: Kerry/ Edwards are apparently planning a tv ad on the bogus missing explosives. With the evidence mounting that this story is a fraud, they're showing their desperation and typical disregard of the facts for cheap political gain. This will backfire.

Alas, the fact that this has been proven to be trumped up and politically motivated will not stop Kerry Edwards from talking about it. Everyone heard the charge, but who will hear the rebuttal?
VA, you're not kiddin'. I updated this post to include that Kerry/Edwards are set to run a tv ad on the missing explosives. Nevermind facts, nevermind perpetrating fraud, nevermind any of it. Just sling mud at Bush because they're desparate, hope it sticks and then sort it all out later. It won't work. You can sense they're in panic mode. Their internals must be pretty dismal.
