Had to laugh at this one
Journalists are touting their own ethics. AP cites this recent research:
Recent research by Wilkins and Renita Coleman of Louisiana State University may provide some vindication for members of a profession that's taken a beating in recent years with high-profile blunders.
What struck me as funny was not the obvious tongue-in-cheek oxymoron of an "ethical journalist", but this:
According to the researchers, journalists are significantly more ethical than the average adult eclipsed only by seminarians, doctors and medical students.
"Seminarians"? Say what? Those priests in waiting? Those evil men who prey on the privates of small children, seek to deprive women of their rights, and plot behind doors to furtively bring the world under their draconian control?
Seems to me that's the real vindication here. You journalists think you've got it bad? Try walking a mile in the public perception of a Catholic priest.
And just who is it again that shapes public perceptions? Well of course there's Hollywood and then you have uh...Big Media which is made up of...uh...Journalists.
