Durbin apologizes...not
So I see Dick "I don't wear a turban" Durbin has apologized for comparing U.S. troops to Nazis and gulag grunts. Or has he? Let's take a closer look. Here was Durbin yesterday:
"Some may believe that my remarks crossed the line. To them I extend my heartfelt apologies."
Any parent worth their salt would send their kid back to their room if they tried such an end-around apology. "I don't see what's wrong with it but I'm sorry I said the f-word, okay?" Nuh uh, Mr., back to your room until you're ready for a real apology.
I have an idea. Let's remove the words "Some may believe that" from the opening sentence up there and let's just start with the word "my" and then we'll be getting somewhere.
Referring to any soldiers he may have offended, Durbin offered this:
"They're the best. I never, ever intended any disrespect for them."
Let's recap what it was that Durbin said about our soldiers:
"...you would most certainly believe this must have been done by Nazis, Soviets in their gulags or some mad regime ? Pol Pot or others ? that had no concern for human beings."
You're Nazis, Soviets, Pol Pot mad regime minions with no concern for human beings! But I mean that in a good way...
Uh huh. Moving right along.
Durbin continues:
"I made reference to Nazis, to Soviets, and other repressive regimes. Mr. President, I've come to understand that's a very poor choice of words."
You've "come to understand"? Glad to see he attended the weekend seminar -- "Inappropriate U.S. Military Comparisons: Nazis, Soviets, Repressive Regimes, And Other Poor Word Choices"
Back to your room, Mr. Durbin...

2 Comments:
His purported defense is that when he read the report he didn't know that they were talking about Americans.
Might work for OJ, Blake, and Jackson, but not here in the Rumpus Court of Public Opinion.
Cue. "Were so sorry. . Uncle Albert".
This whole 'le affair de la durbin de la non est turbin' brings to mind one movie line that didn't make it. . Remember in A Fish Called Wanda when Kevin Kline was Holding "Archie" upside down out the window? "AaaaaPologize"
