What I learned during my weekend in New Jersey with Madman, Madwoman, and Madchild of Chu

"Sometimes you follow your heart.
Sometimes your heart cuts a fart.
That's the cosmic shame!"

KM, that's disgusting. You are better off hanging with the dogs, if a few days with the Mad family causes you to quote garbage.

Somehow we've come to expect something more profound from KMa....mmm, well I guess it's more profound than i originally thought;it can be cleverly dropped in to any "follow your heart" discussion (for which KMa is so famous).

Sheesh. I use a perfectly good English word, and everyone is up in arms. If I'd quoted the whole "Cosmic Shame" bit you would have had me tarred and feathered and banned from Rumpus for good. I figure if the word is good enough for Chaucer, it's good enough for me. Anyway, blame it on the Madman if you must, but not on Madwoman and child, who are innocent victims of Madman's . . . innocent and childlike sense of humor. If it makes you feel any better, we also watched the entire 6 hour A&E production of Pride and Prejudice.

Anon, you've hit the nail on the head. I liked the quote for its applicability to any "follow your heart" discussion. And thanks for the kind words, but it's probably more profound than anything I've ever come up with on this blog.

CIV, I don't find the use of the term 'fart' to be offensive in the least. Crude at times perhaps, but in this context, it is making a near existential statment, and putting the 'follow your heart' crowd in its place.

Well, EXCUSE me for not being deep enough to realize that was a PROFOUND statement. "Existential" must be like poetry, which often goes straight over my head. Next time warn me that something profound is coming and I'll keep quiet.

I'm bein' tongue in cheek here. It is really just some silliness from Jack Black.

Yes, it's a bit of silliness from Jack Black -- part of a Tenacious D number/sketch that's very funny (though certainly crude). And no, of course I don't think it's profound.

But don't keep quiet, CIV! I like your curmudgeonly side . . . it's my opinion that any decent person has a bit of the curmudgeon in them ... I didn't mean to be disgusting, though.

Who is Jack Black? Some Hollywood insider joke?

Speaking of which, will you guys PLEASE take back the talking duck? Virginia does NOT need the silliness of some carpetbagger movie guy running for Senator.

That's Hilarious, CIV. I didn't realize that Ben Affleck had any political aspirations. I say bring it on. He is an idiot. And a crappy actor as well.

Oh, dear God. Ben Affleck running for Senator? You should welcome it, CIV! It would be a really hilarious campaign to watch. Affleck is the one who talked about how "enervated" the crowd at the Democratic National Convention was ... guess his personal vocabulary trainer was taking a coffee break at the time.

Jack Black is the comedian/actor/"musician" who starred in School of Rock. I know of him only from that movie (in which he was extremely funny, and which is fairly non-disgusting, by the way), but he's also part of "Tenacious D," which is, as far as I can tell, a Spinal Tap-like parody of a rock 'n roll band that plays concerts.
