Tidings of great joy?
From Amy Welborn:
Glad tidings of comfort and joy, and Merry Christmas indeed. But without awareness of the risk of discipleship, and the reality that the baby in the manger ends up hanging on a cross, those words have about as little power to change the world as "Happy Holidays."
I agree that Christians must always be aware of the sacrifice Christ made for mankind. However, I don't believe that we must always focus upon it and I don't think Jesus wants us to either. Yes, the cross looms ominously. But, please, just for a little while let us come and adore Him -- and drink a little eggnog too for crying out loud. Sheesh.

Spare the eggnog, please, but I agree that this is not the time to go out and rent Passion Of The Christ. Hold that till Good Friday. Rathher, relish the message of hope and redemption.
