Oscarmania
Stewdog's thoughts and observations while suffering through. . .
OK, so I sat through all 3 and 1/2 hours. Good God! Can't they do a 2 hour show? Once it got rolling at the end, it was fine, but the first hour was painful and a waste of time.
Jon Stewart was just ok. Not horrible. Not as political as I thought he was going to be. Not terribly funny.
But to give a left handed compliment. . at least he wasn't Bill Maher.
I found myself wanting Billy Crystal singing "Oscar. . Oscar".
I didn't like the opening. . Just show old clips please. We don't need the modern digitalization.
The obligatory stupid Brokeback jokes followed, along with the obligatory Cheney joke and the obligatory nod to New Orleans. . . as to salute to our troops fighting overseas. . . I'm still waiting.
On the positive side, Brokeback didn't run away with the night, Syriana won nothing but Clooney's award, Good night and kiss my butt won nothing (McCarthy created the climate of fear. . .er. . no. . he reacted to the Soviets who created the climate of fear), and King Kong Klooney only won one (and it belonged to Matt Dillon).
OK, Jon Stewart, you are Jewish and so you can make a few Jewish references. . but wouldn't have been so funny if the Palestinian "let's blow up Isralis" movie had won best foreign film.
Ms. Kidman and Ms. Hayek looked "maaaavelous".
Are we sick of John Travolta yet (but kudos to the gold tie saluting Oscar).
I love Reese. Good for you.
Phillip Seymour Hoffman and Truman Capote are weird. I wanted Johnny Cash to win.
Was I seeing things or did Dick Morris win best Art Direction?
Glad to see Penguins win.
What were those montages about?
Funny that they hammered on about how things HAD to be seen on the big screen. . while showing them to us on the small screen.
Who is Jessica Alba and why should I care?
Kudos to Bob Altman, but in my mind, he made only one "complete" film that I feel inclined to watch again. . M*A*S*H.
As for Pimpmania. . GOOD GOD!!!! Reminded me of the game Imus likes to play . . . "Which doesn't belong and why"?
Loved the Necrology. . Favorite part of the Oscars.
Phillip and Reese and the big Surprise. . Crash. . Made me happy. . great film.
Good Night and Good God!

Between your and KM's reports, I feel as if I'd watched the Oscars. Yet I had those 3 1/2 hours to myself. Best o' both worlds.
