Great Viewing
If you get the chance, don't miss HBO's Assume The Position. I don't know if it is a one time only thing, or if it will be episodic. Robrt Wuhl (Arliss) assumes the role of a history lecturer before a group of college kids, and mixes popular culture and history. If I had history taught this way, I would have majored in it.
Topics include:
1. The correlation of "We Will Rock You" with "Yankee Doodle"
2. Comparison of Aaaanold and U.S. Grant
3. How "the finger" originated
4. How the legend becomes the reality.
A little racy for the kiddos, but great viewing.

Forget Arliss (which, not having HBO, I've never actually seen). Check out Robert Wuhl in The Hollywood Knights from 1981. A classic, if raunchy, American Graffiti rip-off that really holds its own. So many quotable lines, it remains fresh. "Lawrence, Lawrence of Arabia. He's an English guy. Came to fight the Turkish" (sung to the tune of the LoA theme), "I'm all hot and de-bothered here!" and of course "I've had this taste in my mouth before". Also, you can just about determine the date that Michelle Pfieffer sold her soul to the devil to keep that face intact. Again, I'm not claiming this is high art or anything. It's just funny, is all.

I never saw Arliss, but Wuhl is a very funny guy and this was just a great show.
