Shut Up And Sing
Is the title of a book by Laura Ingraham, inspired by all the singers and actors who suddenly and miraculously have the Holy Spirit of political clarity instilled in them and feel the need to teach us the way, rather than entertain us.
I had a shut up and sing moment last night. I flipped on the PBS show featuring Bruce Springsteen and a great bunch of musicians playing in a church in England. He has had a recent departure with the Seeger Sessions Band. Ironically, the only cuts that I have heard were on Laura's show.
It started out with great music, but with Bruce screaming. He settled down. There was m more great music from the American Folk Tradition, Bluegrassy, New Orleans Jazzy, etc. Then, as he introduced a song about New Orleans, he just couldn't help himself. He had to take out his political shotgun and give George Bush both barrels between the eyes.
Thanks for ruining what could have been a very enjoyable show, Bruce.
