I don't know about the war on Christmas . . .
... but I'll sign up for the war on pre-Halloween Christmas decorations.

Ms. Kate Marie, I believe I will sign up with you. I went into a store this morning before work, intent on finding an item for a Halloween party next week, when I discovered the dregs of the Halloween decor next to the overflowing Christmas department.
No wonder people are so stressed out and can only mutter "Happy Holidays". It's hard to tell which one we're supposed to be celebrating this time of year.
It's depressing, isn't it, Ms. Lisa? No wonder people are so fatigued by the time Christmas actually rolls around.
I suppose avoiding malls and other retail outlets might help, but as much as I promise myself I'll do all of my shopping online this year, it never seems to work out the way I planned.
It won't matter if you do your shopping online, Ms. Kate Marie, because the cute little icons will be popping up there by mid-November.
I'm tempted to adopt the tactic of a friend of mine. She's already completed her Christmas shopping. (I didn't want to ask if her Christmas cards were done already, for fear of developing a "slacker complex".)
In the spirit of "pre-holiday decorating", maybe the Rumpus group should start hanging Valentine's Day decorations. You can never see enough red hearts and cupids!
Ms. Kate Marie, while you're making your Christmas wish list this weekend, you might want to consider the new CD from Robert Plant and Alison Krauss.
I don't even know if I'm being sarcastic or not with this post. It's just an odd duet combination. The songs aren't bad, but they take some getting used to.
You're kidding me. *Robert Plant* and Allison Krauss? She seems to be a popular choice of duet partner for aging male pop stars.
Anyway, Lisa, thanks for the recommendation . . . I think. :)
P.S. I hear ya about not knowing whether you're being sarcastic or not. I often have that feeling -- like my world is so permeated with irony that I have the feeling I'm being sarcastic even when I'm really not.
When you have a few minutes, go to Amazon.com, then search the site for Robert Plant. The first entry that shows up is "Raising Sand" by RP and AK.
Not only can you watch a video, if you scroll down the page, you can also preview all the songs.
Happy listening! I think.
You have struck a raw nerve with me. I am an old fogie who remembers the "good old days" when your parents would take you downtown on the day after Thanksgiving and for the first time, Christmas would be revealed in the shop windows full of trains and toys. I went to OSH last weekend and it is just loaded with Yuletide garbage.
We in America know that the *true* meaning of Christmas is spending a lot of money to save retailers, but can't you please show a little restraint and hold off at LEAST until after the last tree is TPed on Hallowween?
