William Tecumseh Sherman, not a favored name in Georgia, was not a fan of the press. When he head that 2 reporters had been executed by the Confederates on suspicion of being spies, he was heard to remark, "Good, now we'll have news from Hell by noon".

Didn't he also remark that "War is Hell!"?

That is correct, HJH, he is attributed with the quote War is Hell, around 1880. He also said that "All English Professors Should Move To Korea". There is no truth to the rumor, however, that he was the one who said "But other than that, Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?"
"All English Professors Should Move To Korea"? General Sherman said that?
Damn! Like so much of what I've done, I once again discover that my choices have simply followed a script written by someone else!

We'll we'll "Grant" you that, Hoary Geoffrey!
Speaking of U.S. (Unconditional Surrender) Grant, he "habitually wears an expression as if he had determined to drive his head through a brick wall, and was about to do it."
So . . . this will also be your "Quote of the Month"?
