Reuters is at it again

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has endorsed George W. Bush for president. He is the first and only member of the G8 to endorse either candidate.

So how can Reuters spin this one? With its typical synister terror pandering. Here's how they end their piece:

However, Bush may not be altogether reassured by Berlusconi's support.

Shortly before Spanish Socialist Jose Luis Rodriguez Zapatero ousted Jose Maria Aznar in the general election in March, Berlusconi said he was confident that Aznar was heading for victory.

Yep, those terrorists sure fixed Aznar didn't they? Can't you almost see the Reuters reporter pause at his keyboard and triumphantly rub his hands together before typing that one? Nice plug he got in there for Socialism too, eh?

James Taranto of the WSJ has been on Reuters' case for a couple of years now. As he said in 2002 here:

Brite is a journalistic term of art that refers to an amusing, offbeat story, such as the Oscar Meyer Weinermobile item above. Reuters runs them under the heading "Oddly Enough." So here's Reuters' idea of a brite: "An Iranian man, convicted for raping and killing his 16-year-old nephew, will be executed by being thrown off a cliff in a sack, a newspaper reported on Thursday. If the unnamed man survives the fall down a rocky precipice, he will be hanged, legal experts said."Taranto is always running Reuters examples under the title "Not too brite." He also tends to use quotes around "news" when used in the same sentence as Reuters.
