WMD -- an analogy
The Dems and big media are trying to make their political hay out of the latest WMD report from Charles Duelfer. The report concludes that Saddam most likely didn't have stockpiles of weapons but was actively seeking to regain them. This seems to me like a lot of old news. Saddam was a madman who'd used WMD before against his own people, his neighbors, and was giving U.N. inspectors the run-around and had everyone in the world intelligence community believing he possessed weapons. So we went in and took him out. Yup, we know the story.
To me, the whole situation can be boiled down to this simple analogy:
The LAPD receives a phone call from a frightened female resident stating that she thinks she heard shots fired in the residence next door. PD does a check of the residence to find that it's leased by an ex-con, released from prison two years prior after serving a 15 year term for multiple armed robberies, one of which ended in the death of a 34 year old mother of 4. PD is immediately dispatched to the scene and upon knocking and announcing, they receive no reply. Based on the phone call, they believe suspect to be armed and dangerous and have also learned that he lives with a woman and her 6 year old son. Suspect finally yells through the door that he is there with the child and he's done nothing wrong and the police had better just go away-- and no, he's not going to open the door. Negotiator is brought in and talks to suspect through the door, pleading with him to open up and show us that he is unarmed and the child is safe. Suspect refuses and tells them all they had better leave. PD now determines that they must act. The door is kicked in and Suspect, with child in view, brandishes a shiny, black object. Police fire and kill him. Shiny black object later determined to be a tv remote. Further search of the house reveals no weapons but blue-prints of local banks and some smattering of bullets in drawers and drugs. Physical inspection of child reveals that he has endured severe physical abuse over a long period of time.
Media Headline: LAPD, Quick To Trigger, Kills Man Holding TV Remote
Protesters Chant: "No Justice, No Peace!"
European Analysis: American Brutal Society
Beaten and Abused Child: Will not be harmed again.
Family of Dead 34 year old mother: Finds closure.
