Mid-Morning Report

So much for the quagmire. You know something? I'm less and less angry with liberals these days and more and more amused with them, almost to an affectionate degree. They're starting to remind me a little of the befuddled yet lovable Constable Slocum in the movie Bringing Up Baby, "Welp, messed up on the threat of Communism and the Cold War, misjudged the whole 9/11 thing, goofed up on Afghanistan and Iraq, Bush wasn't Hitler after all, guess I got the whole thing fuddled up..."

Was Gandhi a racist? This article seems to support the notion rather convincingly. Hey! Let's have a big rally!! Let's march on Washington and hold up posters depicting him as Hitler and stuff and...uh...nah forget it. Lame.

Here's a little dichotomy for ya -- Give minorities preferences for admission to schools, contracting bids, government jobs and appointments, judgeships, etc. but cupcakes??!! Now, that's offensive.

Has anyone yet noted the rather appropriate name (Schindler) of Terri Schiavo's parents?

The tube is life.

Sigh...Jacques Chirac. Ayparrentlay zee capeetaleesem is zay new Communeesem! Please just go hug a dictator and leave us alone.

Finally, as this is Good Friday, Mark Steyn's review of the new release of The Passion of the Christ is a must read. Here's some typically great Steynian prose on the myth of the wimpy Christ:

In this world, if Jesus were alive today he'd most likely be a gay Anglican bishop in a committed relationship driving around in an environmentally-friendly car with an "Arms Are For Hugging" sticker on the way to an interfaith dialogue with a Wiccan and a couple of Wahhabi imams. If that's your boy, Mel Gibson's movie is not for you.

Read the whole thing.

I wish everyone a joyous Easter, as I contemplate my favorite bumper sticker:
"WHO WOULD JESUS BOMB"?
And I would add Jesus Christ Superstar to a good Easter list. The movie was a little strange, but the soundtrack and stage play were excellent. I liked the portrayal of Jesus showing a little anger at the Temple, a side that is forgotten in the view describe by the Dog of Wonder.

And a joyous Easter to you, too, Stew of dog!

As for the Gandhi claims, I will remain skeptical about the reliability of the original article at whatever.com (which The Daily Times -- of Pakistan, mind you -- doesn't link to). I'm not immune to the thrill of iconoclasm, though, which is why I like (and recommend) George Orwell's essay on Gandhi, to be found in his Collected Essays.

And, as always, gotta LOVE Mark Steyn.
