Strategizing for 2008
Drudge is reporting that Hillary plans to vote to confirm John Roberts to the Supreme Court.
Once again the Clintons are attempting to position themselves without regard to underlying substantive convictions -- simply because they have none. If voting to confirm Roberts makes Hillary appear more moderate and hence makes her more electable then that's exactly what she will do. It's the same Dick Morris triangulation strategy that Bill used to get reelected after the debacle of his first term in office with its largest tax hike in history, government-run healthcare, and gays in the military agenda. Hillary is now at it early on.
Will it work? I doubt it. Why? My theory is that after Bush's eight years, the American people are simply going to be tired of 20 years of Bush/Clinton/Bush governments. Yes, 20 years! In 2008, the end of Dubya's term in office, the American people will have either had a Bush or Clinton as president going all the way back to 1988. Do we really want to tack on another Clinton?
Okay, now you've heard it. That's my strategy for nipping the "Hillary for president" campaign in the bud. It goes something like this: We've had Bushes and Clintons running things in Washington for 20 years now. It's time to let someone else have a crack at it. America deserves a fresh face and a fresh, innovative leader to take our great nation into this blossoming new millennium. Hillary Clinton is the heavy anchor of the past that wishes to attach itself to our bright future. Her failed polices of the past belong in the past. America cannot move forward by looking backward.
Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!
(yes it's politics but that's how you win elections)

I don't see the problem with gays in the military. I'd rather have the army populated by millions than have one Clinton in the White House.
