Oh, please. Don't get me started on Grandpa Joe. Charlie's mom works and slaves for those four old people who "can't" get out of bed for twenty years, and then Charlie gets a golden ticket and all of a sudden Grandpa Joe is dancing around the room? And where does he get off accepting Charlie's invitation to go to Mr. Wonka's factory? Charlie may be excused for being so clueless (he's only a kid, after all), but Grandpa Joe *should* have said, "You know, Charlie, I'm honored that you would ask me, but don't you think your mother -- who has been changing my bedpan for the last twenty years, in addition to working herself to exhaustion for our survival -- deserves a little fun and a day off?"
I had never watched this movie till about 6 months ago, as the "non-blogging sister" coaxed me into it by telling me of Grandpa Joe and the others all sleeping in a "urine soaked bed" together...My first reaction to that was " this is a kid's movie?".. and after watching the entire movie...I decided it was worth it for one and only one reason ....the Umpa Lumpa cartwheel..it is classic.
Actually, by encouraging Charlie to break the rules, he indirectly gives Charlie the opportunity to redeem himself at the end -- though of course Charlie *wouldn't* have been redeemed if he had listened to Grandpa Joe and gone to Slugworth, instead of returning the gobstopper to Mr. Wonka.

Darn right, KM. And don't forget...he coaxed Charlie into stealing Fizzie Lifting Drinks! (at least in the movie)
He's just bad all around. But he's a little bit fun, isn't he?

LOL, TP! Have you ever seen Wonderdog do an oompa loompa cartwheel? It's great.
By the way, what is this, a freak-out?!!
Seen him do it?...are you kidding me?...He insists on doing it at every function or gathering...it's getting a bit embarrasing.... :)
The Oompa Loompa cartwheel only comes out after imbibing the infamous margatinis...
"doopah dee doo"...
