Dumbing down the crucifixion
The text of these pages of The Way of the Cross for Children reads as follows:
Eleventh Station
Jesus is Crucified
Jesus was held on the cross with large nails in His hands and feet. The soldiers left Him hanging there in the hot sun for three hours so that He would die.
Having to stay behind when someone is going fishing or to a circus is not easy. It can make us feel sad and even want to cry, but we suffer these bravely like Christ did when the soldiers drove nails into his hands and feet.
Prayer: Lord Jesus, help us to put up with the hard things in our world.

Look, little Mary Frances, I'm real sorry about the fishing trip and all, and I hate to break it to you, . . . but sometimes it's just not all about you.

Even scarier revelation in that illustration: Jesus had only one leg!
I am *so* cracking up right now.
I hadn't noticed that!
And note that patch over the left eye of little Mary Frances. No wonder those two in the boat left her behind -- she's a pirate!

And I wouldn't be Protestant if I didn't point out that the missing leg reflects Catholic teaching on the eucharist as the real body and blood of Jesus.
Of course some of him is missing after Mass.

She's not a pirate. She has amblyopia! The poor dear...
Since we are ALL going to Hell in the express lane for this one. . .my two cents. Every movie I have seen depicting The Crucifiction shows Jesus WALKING through town with the cross on his shoulders. Now we know that is historically inaccurate. He HOPPED the entire way.
ON another note. . what is the moral relativism at play here? Getting crucified is the equivalent of missing a boat ride? Send these people to Jesus Camp stat!
Jeff, don't try to gin up some tragic tale about that little pirate having amblyopia! No sympathy from me for criminals! Jesus is the one who can't fully amble about due to his missing leg and thus has to amblyop from place to place!
