Arafat Obit -- murderer

Big Trunk over at Power Line has an Arafat obituary that you're not likely to see in the fawning MSM coverage.

Meanwhile, Tom Gross at National Review tells us how the BBC is giving Arafat the "Princess Di treatment.

As for myself, I wish we could just dig a hole, toss him in, fill it up and build condos over it -- and just wipe him off the books. But he'll find his place among the books, the increasingly anti-Semitic press will see to that. How long before our pierced teens start donning his visage on their t-shirts -- "Free Palestine!". Of course we all know the subtext of that statement don't we? "Kill the jews!"

He was before my time, but I've heard tell of a little fellow with a short mustache and a stiff, reflexive right arm who used to say things like that.

Okay, I'll say it since most news anchor types seem to be biting their tongues on this one. How can anyone watch the coverage of Arafat's send-off without commenting on the savage nature of the "mourners"? Is there a civilized person that doesn't look at thousands of people stampeding and shooting guns into the air (I understand that 9 people were hurt when gravity performed as expected) and say what the f***? How about the sight of people shoving to reach the coffin and actually threatening to topple it to the ground? One news report had the helicopter door pinned for half an hour by the crowd, the crew unable to off-load their cargo. All in the name of respect for their dear leader. I just don't get it.

Nice to have you back, DB. I was afraid that perhaps you had met with disaster taking a dirt berm a bit too hard.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. Can you imagine if the "Christian Right" acted thus if W were no more? Can you imagine the horrific reaction from the media? They would be warning us to hide the women and children and rightly so. I hate to say it but it's downright uncivilized. There, I said it anyway.

Uncivilized? I gave up all hope when I read this:

Palestinian Family Values
From a Knight Ridder dispatch from the West Bank town of Abu Qash:

Rofayda Qaoud--raped by her brothers and impregnated - refused to commit suicide, her mother recalls, even after she bought the unwed teenager a razor with which to slit her wrists. So Amira Abu Hanhan Qaoud says she did what she believes any good Palestinian parent would: restored her family's "honor" through murder.

Armed with a plastic bag, razor and wooden stick, Qaoud entered her sleeping daughter's room last Jan. 27. "Tonight you die, Rofayda," she told the girl, before wrapping the bag tightly around her head. Next, Qaoud sliced Rofayda's wrists, ignoring her muffled pleas of "No, mother, no!" After her daughter went limp, Qaoud struck her in the head with the stick.

Killing her sixth-born child took 20 minutes, Qaoud tells a visitor through a stream of tears and cigarettes that she smokes in rapid succession. "She killed me before I killed her," says the 43-year-old mother of nine. "I had to protect my children. This is the only way I could protect my family's honor."

Oh come on. I'm disappointed in ALL of you posters on this one.
You are showing your bigotry and cultural chauvanism.
You must learn to embrace diversity. Come on, sing a long with me. . .
