It is a great movie. I like the darker side of it when he returns to Potterville. I've seen it so many times I am burnt out on it. Other Christmas must sees for me: A Christmas Carol (Alister Sim), Scrooged, with Bill Murry, the Animated Grinch with Boris Karlof, Home Alone, The Nutcracker (Barishinov), I personally can't stand Charley Brown Christmas. Most new Christmas stories are terrible. I wonder if Mel Gibson is pondering a new movie about Christ's birth. Too calm and non violent? Well, there always is the Flight Into Egypt and the massacre of the innocents.
Well, I may not have seen "It's a Wonderful Life," but I've seen Mr. Magoo's Christmas Carol, as well as the Mickey Mouse version and a couple of stage productions of it at Ford's Theater. I might have seen Nutcracker, though I can't really remember, but I certainly hear it on CD and radio often enough. (I'm a fan of Handel's Messiah, too.) I like Charley Brown Christmas and the Dr. Seuss Grinch who Stole Christmas. Even the Garfield Christmas was OK. It has been quite a while since I've seen anything at all on TV, so I don't know most of the newer ones. Oh, I recall a Frosty the Snowman cartoon that was OK, but not great.
I gotta chime in with a few here that have not been mentioned: Scrooge (Albert Finney musical version), A Christmas Story (You'll shoot you're eye out!), The Bishop's Wife, Christmas Vacation, The Rankin Bass Trifecta of Rudolph, Santa Claus is Coming to Town and Year Without A Santa Claus, Miracle On 34th Street, While You Were Sleeping...To name a few.
Wonderdog, I haven't seen those movies, either, except for "While You Were Sleeping" -- and the credit for that does not go to me. My mother rented it while visiting and insisted I see it. I never get to movies and I'm too cheap to rent head sets on the rare occassion I'm flying and there's an inflight movie.

I must be the only person in America that has NOT seen It's a Wonderful Life. I'm afraid the bunny version went a little too fast for me...
VA, that's a sacrilege! Get thee to a Blockbuster, pronto!
