Stew's Reviews
The Stewdog broke free from the leash and managed to snag a few DVD's this weekend.
THE AVIATOR: Worth watching, but hard to recommend the entire picture. Very long at almost 3 hours, and breaks down into thirds:
1: Great historical background of the interesting, brilliant, and eccentric man. Takes you into old Hollywood.
Always love Kate Blanchett and she was great as Katherine Hepburn.
2: Do we really need to spend this much time dwelling on the poor man's obsessive/compulsive behavior, which today likely could have been controlled with medication?
3: Great scene in congressional hearing with Alan Alda as the Maine Senator who tried to bring him down. This movie sufferes from "RAYitis". Why must Hollywood feel compelled to dwell on the negatives of a person's life?
BEING JULIA: As a Theatre Major, schooled in Maughm, and married to an actress, I might appreciate this movie more than others, but I thought it was fantastic and that Mrs. Warren Beatty was brilliant.
I also caught Hotel Rwanda last week and can't recommend it enough, when the kids are asleep and you are in the proper mood.
