Rudy! Rudy! Rudy!

Tom Roeser at the Chicago Sun-Times writes about Rudy Giuliani's potential run for the presidency and strategizes briefly about how Rudy can "frame" his candidacy for social conservatives. Rudy Giuliani is, at this point, the candidate I'd prefer to see in office in 2008 as a war-time president (though I'll almost certainly vote for whomever the Republicans nominate, unless Pat Buchanan is somehow welcomed back into the fold with open arms). I disagree with Giuliani's position on abortion, but I'll be satisfied if he promises to appoint "conservative" judges and rethinks his support of Roe v. Wade, which was a terrible decision -- and that's an assessment that requires neither a conservative slant of mind nor a personal pro-life committment. As Roeser points out, Giuliani has courage, the one virtue that creates the possibility for all the others. And let's face it, we don't elect saints to presidential office, unless you count "St. Jimmuh," and look how that turned out.
