Religion May Be Harmful To Your Society
So says this study.
"Religious belief can cause damage to a society, contributing towards high murder rates, abortion, sexual promiscuity and suicide, according to research published today."
Time to break out the black cats and get the coven together again.

I suppose it didn't occur to the scholar that perhaps the high murder rates, abortion, sexual promiscuity and suicide are happening among the least religious sectors in our country. Perhaps our religious are more religious and our non religious are more non religious than in the populations to which he compared the US.
And why didn't he compare the religious to the atheist havens of normalcy and bliss such as the USSR or Castro's Cuba or Pol Pot's Cambodia et al.
I find it hard to believe the accepting Darwin without question (sounds like religion to me) will cure all our ills.
That article is just whacky. How can you draw such conclusions without taking all other factors in a society that may cause the ills of a nation.
All that one can validly conclude from the study is a correlation.
Assuming that the data are correct, then I would note that people suffering problems often turn to religion and suggest that perhaps the U.S. is more religious because it has more problems.
But do we have more problems?

Exactly, Jeffery. Has the writer of the article (or the author of the study) ever heard "correlation is not causation"?
Americans probably eat more hotdogs, drive more miles, and watch more baseball than people in Britain, France, Japan, and the Scandinavian countries. Perhaps those things "cause" more murder, abortion, sexual promiscuity and suicide. Yeesh.
