The Roberts hearings

I only had time to catch a glimpse of the hearings this morning. Ted Kennedy, reading his long-worded, staff prepared question, was stumbling and bumbling toward its conclusion while Roberts looked on with a slightly furrowed left brow, leaning in an inch closer each time Kennedy prattled on incoherently. When Kennedy finished, Roberts then pleasantly and calmly, and without notes or a piece of paper, began to correct the good senator's misinterpretation of the legal issues in the case he had cited and his misrepresentation of Roberts' position on those issues.

Kennedy couldn't respond at all to Roberts. He sat dumbfounded, looking around like an actor who had just heard foreign dialogue and was beseeching the director -- "That's not in the script..."

As I told Topdog today, the best approch to The Sage Of Chappiquiddick is to schedule his questioning as late in the day as possible so that it overlaps the cocktail hour.
You want a national disgrace? Stop slandering poor Katrina, he's right there before your eyes.
And a close second behind Uncle Ted is the insufferable twit, Joe Biden.

CIV had the dubious pleasure of shaking hands with the senior senator at some sort of party many moons ago. He gave a very brief talk without notes and was, well, even the word "inarticulate" doesn't really capture his inability to speak. The man basically cannot even string together one sentence if it isn't on note cards in front of him.
