Kooks with nukes

Mark Steyn explains why the world can't abide them. A snippet:

When the Argentine junta seized British sovereign territory in the Falklands, the generals knew that the United Kingdom was a nuclear power, but they also knew that under no conceivable scenario would Her Majesty’s Government drop the big one on Buenos Aires. The Argie generals were able to assume decency on the part of the enemy, which is a useful thing to be able to do.

We don't have to go back that far, actually. In our present conflict, Saddam also knew we'd never drop one on him. But could anyone ever really say that about a nuclear Iran?

There's a great sequence in Woody Allen's Annie Hall in which a young Christopher Walken tells Allen about his suicidal tendencies whenever he's behind the wheel of his car. The next scene is a shot of a very uneasy Woody Allen glancing over at Walken, who is now driving Allen to the airport.

Some people can be trusted at the wheel. Others cannot.
