Just wondering
Ross Douthat wonders why Ramesh Ponnuru's book isn't getting reviewed by the mainstream press or liberal bloggers. So do I. (Follow-up post here.)

KM, one of the customer reviewers asked why the party has become the party of death. Recently I heard part of an interview with Daniel Gilbert, the author of Stumbling on Happiness. His book may have the answer.
Apparently the human imagination is terrible at predicting how we will think and feel in the future. So I'm guessing that we think "Oh, I'd never want to end up helpless and dependent" but don't realize that if and when we ARE helpless and dependent, we may feel differently and NOT want to be "helped" along to the afterlife. Meanwhile, the party of death projects their current feelings into the future and pushes death. [Though for the life of me, I don't understand why they become the Defenders of Life when it comes to terrorists and murders. ]
Both these books are on my "to be read" list. I hope I get time for them.
