I don't understand that story. Why is a private conversation between a senator and her elite-educated daughter even newsworthy?
The senator's statements about young people's aversion to work is irresponsible as a generalization but pretty accurate when narrowly applied to one particular stratum of society: the wealthy, well educated, and well connected--in other words, people like herself, Republicans and Democrats alike. Chelsea Clinton, the Bush girls, and the Gore kids may work hard now, but such children of the political class are rarely seen around D.C. mowing lawns or stuffing tacos at Chipotle. They don't have to, and I'd really rather not hear their parents hector us about the poor work ethic of American youth.

Jeff, that is exactly why we need to open the borders and let in the poor, uneducated, and unconnected -- to mow lawns and stuff tacos for the the wealthy, well educated, and well connected.
Jeff, thanks for crystalizing my thoughts precisely. As one who grew up far from privileged, I bussed tables, bagged groceries, adjusted claims for an insurance company, and worked full-time as a paralegal while going to law school at night to get where I am.
It would have been nice for me to ride the coat tails of her well-to-do family, not to mention her well-connected husband.

Drop dead, Ms. Rodham.
Well, except Jeff didn't say the drop dead part. That was pure Wonderdog. :)
