Breakfast at American Girl Place?
Remember the scene in Breakfast at Tiffany's when Audrey Hepburn and George Peppard walk in to Tiffany's and want to find something to purchase for no more than 10 dollars? The soft-voiced man at the counter points out a few novelty items (a sterling silver telephone dialer, etc.), but they want something more "personal." They hit upon the idea of having something engraved, and Peppard fishes in his pocket and finds a "gold" ring from a box of Cracker Jacks. They ask the man if Tiffany's will engrave it for them. The man graciously agrees to have it engraved. Audrey Hepburn then kisses the man on the cheek, turns to George Peppard and says, "Didn't I tell you this was a lovely place?"
Well, the American Girl Place on Fifth Avenue may be within walking distance of Tiffany's, but it's actually worlds away.

That post inspired thoughts at once bleakly despairing and sanguinely violent.
I can't believe Althouse took sides with AG. Just bite your lip, style the little doll's hair, make the little girl smile, take her 20 bucks and move on. Sheesh.
By the way, just what exactly does a "doll hairstylist" have to be snobbish about?
