Deadline Headlines
Perusing the Sunday LA Times, two stories jumped out at me:
DIRECTOR ACCUSED OF DUI, DRUG POSSSESSION
Say it isn't so. Not our lovable Oliver Stone. Drugs and Alcohol. . . just what the doctor ordered to nurture his paranoia. This is his second go round, having snagged probation in '99 for the same charges. We can only hope that he will rehabilitate himself soon, and get back to making those movies we know and love so well.
BOXER HAS SEIZURE, THEN BRAIN SURGERY
Wait. Not my BABS. Say it isn't so. Oh. . nevermind. .it is on the sports page, so it isn't THAT Boxer. The Times has to be more careful and stop scaring me like that.
Then there is the "Comics". Remember when they used to be funny? Doonesbury today, in part one, to be continued next week, lists the names of our servicemen and women who have died in Iraq. Nice of him to salute them (or is that use them for his political aim?). To be fair, Mallard Fillmore has a similar theme, showing an American flag and a gun and uni of a fallen soldier, but provides a salute to them. Same story. . different spin. In a perfect world, all of the political cartoons would be moved to the Editorial section, and the funny papers could be funny again.
I hope everyone enjoys his or her long weekend, but takes the time to remember all the sacrifices of the those who died so we can enjoy our tremendous freedoms. As always, I remember my Uncle Edward O'Neil, a Navy pilot who died off the coast of Africa fighting the Third Reich.

God bless Edward O'Neil and all the others who died to preserve our freedom.
The Washington Post moved Doonsebury off the comic pages years ago. They put it with the gossip column. Very appropriate, no?
