Katrina relief efforts
Since Rumpus is an L.A. based blog, we're going to focus on Los Angeles area relief efforts and allow the heavy hitters such as Instapundit and Hugh Hewitt to guide national response.
Here are a few links to some local charity relief efforts:
American Red Cross of Greater Los Angeles
The United Way of Greater Los Angeles
Catholic Charities of Los Angeles
Salvation Army of Southern California
The Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles
In addition, here's a link to an extensive list of greater Los Angeles area charities which may or may not be organizing relief for Katrina. Find the charity of your choice on the list and inquire about donations for victims of Katrina:

Update: Via Dirtbiker, here's Indepundit's suggestion for Lent in September. And here's a link to the Soldier's Angels relief fund. Terry Teachout and Our Girl in Chicago also have a great series of links and posts on Katrina relief.

I see we had similar ideas, expressed slightly differently.
They say brilliant minds think alike. I'm not sure what they would say about the two of us.
"Book 'em" comes to mind...
I plan to donate to Catholic Charities and to Samaritan's purse. Hugh Hewitt also has links to charities that focus on soldiers serving in Iraq whose families have been affected by the hurricane.
We hit the Red Cross. The head of it is an Occidental College graduate who gave the keynote speech at the Stewpuppy's graduation in May. Sharp gal. Was a Rear Admiral in the Navy.
"gal"? Didn't that go out with the hoola hoop?
Yes, but this site does not kowtow to political correctness. If she was a he, he would be a guy. How soon you forget "Guys and Dolls", or as they would call it today, Men and Womyn. And I still dial the phone and get my soda out of an ice box.
Stewdog, you aren't any older than me, and I don't call them iceboxes. But where did you get the dial phone? Did Ma Bell let you keep it after renting it 30 years?
