Diamond in the rough

KM, this post is mostly for you.

I downloaded all the songs off Neil Diamond's new album expecting to hear some aged, watered-down Diamond but, goodness gracious, wasn't I pleasantly surprised? The man has not missed a beat. This is the same sound I heard while traveling in the way-back of the old Pontiac station wagon. Some of these melodies are already indelibly in my mind, along with that trademark scratchy baritone voice.

If you're interested, go here and be sure your speakers are turned up. This site plays continuous highlights of the album tracks.

Neil Diamond is "Elvis Lite". Overrated and overplayed. But in this group, my opinion makes me a "Solitary Man".

Can we talk "overrated"? How about the Rolling Stones? I'd pay well to see that "overrated" sixty-plus-year-old sing "Sweet Caroline" onstage, but you'd have to pay *me* to watch those walking cadavers Mick Jagger and Keith Richard.

Neil Diamond is popular, but underrated by the hipper-than-thou crowd.

Yes, when it comes to Neil Diamond, "I'm a Believer" and you, O Stew of Dog, have been dipping rather generously into the "Red, Red Wine."

I have no desire to see the Rolling Stones. All rock stars should go the "James Dean Route" before they hit 40, or else just retire. But their music is far superior to Neil Diamond Dreck.

Mick Jagger couldn't carry Neil's jock strap.

Yes he could, but it wouldn't give him any Satisfaction and he would Paint It Black first.
