Caution: A bit of indecorous language to follow
Roger Simon picks up on a theme that Stewdog touched on yesterday. Here's his take on the materialism of the celebrity culture here in Hollywood:
Maybe it's a symptom of living in Hollywood, but most of my left-leaning friends are rich. Very rich. They buy expensive (hybrid) cars, live in multi-million dollar homes with servants and "assistants" and take fancy vacations (often in second homes in upscale resorts). My left-wing media friends in New York aren't so badly off either. Nearly all of them (on both coasts) believe the current global problem is a result of Third World poverty and nothing more. They cannot conceive that it is not about material wealth because so much of life is about just that for them (plus fame, of course).
Hyprocrisy. It is the most resonating indictment of Hollywood available and needs to be promulgated as often as possible. So here I am to promulgate it. I can't tell you how many times I've wished that I could appear opposite an Alec Baldwin on some type of talking head show and ask him how many poor families could have been fed with the 4 grand he spent on the suit he's wearing; not to mention his 4 hundred dollar shoes; not to mention his 10 million dollar home.
Just go walk a red carpet and piss off, please.

Ah, WD, I agree but you need a different argument or they may play the religion card:
Matthew 26:9-11
"This perfume could have been sold at a high price and the money given to the poor."
Aware of this, Jesus said to them, "Why are you bothering this woman? She has done a beautiful thing to me. The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me.
CIV, don't confuse me...
It's their hypocrisy, not mine. They are the ones who demonize the "rich" and the "corporations", etc.
It is called Ted Kennedyitis. He has so much money that he could be taxed at 100% and not feel it, so he pushes higher taxes on the upper middle class and "the rich" to buy himself votes.
Hey, Ted, if you are so smart, why aren't you poor?
Ah yes, Rumpus, where we get "indecorous language" and bible quotes in the same exchange.
Chris, thanks for visiting. I checked out your blog. It is very thoughtful and quite active. And good to hear from another baseball fan. There are number of Angel and Cardinal fans involved here.
