KM is right--it's a lovely post. The only reason I didn't link to it myself is that it seemed disrespectful to include it in my recent collection of quirky linkage.
Jeff, the post derives much of its compelling quality from what my Uncle Cranford wrote rather than from what I added. The man can express himself quite well.
