Terrorists strike American Consulate in Jiddah, Saudi Arabia

While this is yet again another disturbing story of murderous psycopaths attacking an American target, leaving 4 Saudi security force members dead, I can't help but feel somewhat heartened by the result here. No Americans were killed and only a few were slightly injured.

Here's the gist of the clash as reported by AP:

During the hostage standoff, the official said, there were some negotiations, but Saudi security forces stormed the attackers when threats were made. There was a brief firefight that ended with the three being killed and two captured, the Saudi official said.

This seems to me to be a desperate and failed attempt to kill Americans by an unorganized band of killers. It appears bungling, sloppy, weak, and pathetic. The swift and fatal retribution visited upon these inept miscreants indicates to me that our enemy is losing and dying.

Apparently, those sympathetic to the killers don't feel that way:

On Islamic militant Web sites, contributors began hailing the attack even before it was over, with one person praising it as "destruction of a bastion of atheism."

"We were afraid about our brothers in the Arab peninsula, but this proves that they are well and sound, thank God," said the person who made the posting, referring to recent Saudi crackdowns on militants.

Maybe this explains why we've killed or arrested so many terrorists -- it seems in their warped minds that being dead or shackled and chained is "well and sound". Silly me, I thought if you get killed or arrested, you lose.
