It's Friday afternoon...
...and that means it's time for my top five Sigmund and the Sea Monsters episodes of all time:
1. The Monster Who Came to Dinner
Johnny and Scott bring Sigmund home from the beach and hide him in their clubhouse from Zelda, who invited the sheriff over for dinner. Meanwhile, Sigmund's family gets a visit from their rich Uncle Siggy, who demands to see Sigmund or he'll disinherit the family.
...I'll never forget when the sheriff nearly spotted Sigmund while strolling through the backyard. If he hadn't stepped on that rake, it might have been curtains for Sigmund! I still get chills.
2. Ghoul School Daze
When the monster School principal tells the Oozo family that they must send one member of the family to school they choose Sigmund. The trouble is, thinking he is nothing but trouble, Sigmund has run away.
...I remember thinking, "How could Sigmund think he's anything but special?"
3. Puppy Love
Sigmund falls in love with Fluffy, a dog that belongs to Johnny's girlfriend, Peggy. Sigmund's family schemes to get him back by tricking him into meeting Diana Demon, a sea monster actress who Sigmund has a crush on.
...This is the famous episode where Johnny Whitaker plays the guitar.
4. Happy Birthdaze
Burp and Slurp decide to bring home Sigmund to be Big Daddy's birthday present. Not only do they take Sigmund, but the cake and presents that Aunt Zelda had gotten for the sheriff's birthday. And its up to Johnny and Scott to save the Birthdaze.
...I still get nervous when the sheriff says he's "ready to eat some of that delicious cake." This episode is also Big Daddy's finest.
5. Monster Rock Festival
Sigmund wins a radio singing contest. The problem is, not only do they need to hide Sigmund's identity from the radio DJ but the Ooze Family needs him to sing with them in the Monster rock festival.

...If you don't know how this one ends, I won't spoil it for you. (hint: It's impossible for a sea monster to be in two places at once, right?...or is it?)
3 Comments:
High-larious, Wonderdog.
Ah, the innocent pleasures of yesteryear! Siing it with me: "Sigmund the Sea Monster and Johnny and Scott were friends . . ."
Wonderdog, admit it: The time has come to share your sekrit cache of "Sigmund" fan fiction with a desperate world. (Seriously, man, don't make me wait any longer to find out what would have happened during that ill-fated third season!)
"...the finest friends that ever could be on the land or on the sea."
darryl ann, it's possible that it might occur sooner, but I think it's safe to say that the scariness officially begins at picture #9.
Jeff, I don't think the world is ready Sigmund nor is Sigmund ready for them. Taking Sigmund from his cave and putting him before the world with his shy ways would be a little bit like killing a mockingbird would it not?
As for the ill-fated third season, the show "jumped the shark" after the "very special episode" dealing with Sigmund's brush with drug addiction.
